GM Suspends Chevy Volt Production Due to Slow Sales

Late yesterday it was announced that General Motors (GM) is suspending production of their fledgling Chevy Volt electric vehicle.  The announcement came from Automotive News, which cited unnamed sources that the United Auto Workers (UAW) union told workers at one of the plants in Detroit that scheduled downtime was planned between September 17 and October 15.  GM didn't respond to the news, but said they match supply with demand, which is enough validation.

The Chevy Volt is a product of the government, where politicians and liberal special interest groups directed its production, despite the high cost of the vehicle eliminating any true value.  While we've reported that it's an engineering marvel, the back story proves, once again, that the government is only good at picking losers.

The Volt was designed to satisfy the radical, fringe enviro-Nazi's on the Left, as they view anything that's not considered "green" as America's biggest threat.  America ended up with a vehicle that's barely sold 11,000 units that costs upwards of $250,000 to the taxpayer for each vehicle.  It's one of the reasons that GM is going from bad to worse under Obama's bailout.
