HHS Hands Out 729 Obamacare Waivers; 40% of Exemptions to Unions

It's Obamacare waiver mania over at the Health and Human Services (HHS) administration! Earlier in the week we reported that three additional local SEIU chapters that were granted exemptions to the alleged health care reform bill. In the past three months, the number of waivers have skyrocketed from 222 to 729. What's actually funny is that a significant portion of these exemptions have been granted to major Obama and Obamacare supporters. There isn't much more evidence needed to prove that Obamacare has nothing to do with health care. It's a radical government expansion that focuses on redistributing wealth.

Conveniently, this information was held until after Obama's State of the Union address, which was also known as "Date Night." The news wouldn't have helped the president's speech had it been released earlier because in the speech, Obama claimed to be open to adjustments to the biggest expansion of government in modern history. Typically, as pointed out by the Hot Air Green Room, the HHS posts the updated list of gifted organizations that receive waivers on their site by the third of the month - that wasn't the case this month.

"Well today, the day after the President's State of the Union, the new waivers are up. You may recall that there were 222 such waivers approved in November. That number has now jumped to 729 through the end of December. The total number of people covered by the waivers has gone from 1.5 million to just under 2.2 million. The list includes the usual assortment of unions and local businesses."

Obamacare exemptions now cover 2.2 million people. Of that number, a whopping 40% of the individuals belong to a union. That's incredible. This is clearly the reason that the HHS wanted to keep the list hidden from the public. For a piece of legislation that was sold as the greatest thing since sliced bread, that's an awful lot of individuals who are missing out on the wonders of socialized health care.

The cost issue is easy to understand. The government's mandate is unrealistic and forcibly stifles competition.

"This ever-expanding list of waivers is the direct result of the Obamacare raising the annual benefit caps on certain health plans. Obviously, a plan with higher annual limits is potentially more costly than one with them. The money to cover the difference in premiums has to come to somewhere. Without the waivers, it will come from the employer who are forced by the law to upgrade to the more expensive plan. In other words, the 729 organization who have received waivers are not seeking refuge from an unintended consequence, but from the costs associated with one of Obamacare's features. The real question is what these businesses will do once the waiver program comes to an end."

Health care reform was heralded as a deficit reducer. Somehow by adding 30 million people, the false number thrown out by liberals, to the health care system through a new entitlement program will cut costs and improve care. The president even had the nerve to mention that repealing the bill would add to the deficit - a lie that the Congressional Budget Office admits is not realistic.

The HHS, through the Obama administration, is once again bailing out their friends by granting them exemptions to the abortion known as Obamacare. This is outrageous - it's no wonder these weren't added to the website until after Obama lied during his State of the Union speech.
